Yes — and it's endorsed by major medical bodies. The American Pain Society and American College of Physicians recommend acupuncture as first-line treatment for chronic low-back pain. A 2018 JAMA Internal Medicine meta-analysis of over 20,000 patients confirmed lasting, significant pain reduction. At Katy Acupuncture, many patients experience 50–100% relief in their first session. Acupuncture increases blood flow to the uterus, improving endometrial thickness and receptivity. It also reduces the stress hormones (cortisol, epinephrine) that impair implantation. Research published in Fertility & Sterility (Paulus et al., 2002; Westergaard et al., 2006) shows pre and post embryo-transfer acupuncture significantly improves live birth rates. Most patients begin treatment 3–4 months before their retrieval cycle.
We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana, and many others. We will verify your specific plan coverage at no charge before your first appointment. Even if your insurance doesn't cover acupuncture, it qualifies under HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) plans. Please note: Medicare does not cover acupuncture. Almost never. Acupuncture needles are as thin as a human hair — completely different from injection needles. Most patients feel a subtle warmth, dull ache, or tingling sensation at insertion points, followed by deep relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during treatment. After your session, we recommend avoiding strenuous activity and drinking plenty of water.
It depends on your condition. Acute injuries may resolve in 2–6 sessions. Chronic conditions typically need 8–12 sessions of weekly treatment. Fertility protocols run 3–4 months. Cosmetic facial acupuncture is a 10-session protocol over 5 weeks. At your first visit, we'll give you an honest, individualized treatment plan with no pressure.
Cupping uses suction cups to stimulate blood flow, release deep muscle tension, and remove congestion. Gua Sha uses gentle scraping to break up inflammation and improve microcirculation. Both are clinically proven for pain and recovery. Cupping can leave temporary redness that fades in 2–4 days. Both are safe, widely practiced, and often integrated with acupuncture for enhanced outcomes.
Not at all. Acupuncture is a complement to conventional medicine, not a replacement. We work alongside your doctor and can coordinate care directly. Many Houston-area physicians actively refer patients to us for pain management, fertility support, and post-surgical recovery. Acupuncture will not interfere with medications, surgery, or any conventional treatment plan.
